As a LBSU fan, but more importantly as a women's basketball fan, the western part of this country needs to improve its women's basketball and I hope
this hire does it at LB. Outside of the Pac-10 schools not many other schools are competitive on the national scene or have the ability to compete with the
bottom half of the Pac-10 and that is a shame. Not too long ago UCSB was the second best program in the west behind Stanford. I hope that all the conference
schools start spending more dollars and make a greater commitment to women's basketball and that especially goes for LBSU.
Now on to the hire, IMO this hire has the potential to be a great one. Everyone knows that Jody can recruit with the best of them, but she has never fully ran a program before. There will definitely be a learning cure, but bringing in talent is the top priority right now and she should be able to do that. A plus going for her is that there will be nine scholarships available for the 2010 class so she has plenty to work with or hold some for the following year. Another strong point that Jody's hire has is that an experience assistant coach probably comes with the hire, her husband. A lot of times mid majors do not have the funds to attract quality assistants but this might not be the case here. I hope this turns out to be a great hire for LB and for the BW in general.
A couple of weeks ago I spoke to someone very close to the Riverside program and they believe next years team will be their best ever. I was told that they will have available four redshirts that are of top quality and they also have coming back, off knee surgery, their best perimeter player. I hope they are as good as expected and every other team raises the bar but none higher than LBSU
.
You may see me more on these boards since I have been re-energized by this hire. Time to start following women's basketball a little closer now.
